Hi there,
This week's tip: put the check-in in your calendar
Budgets rarely fail because the math is wrong. They fail because nobody looks at them. Block ten minutes every Sunday: what came in, what went out, which category is running ahead, and what's due in the next two weeks. That's it.
The five questions are in The weekly money check-in. To see how your pay splits, try the 50/30/20 calculator.
This week's money term
Take-home pay: what lands in your account after taxes, insurance and retirement contributions. Always budget with this number, not your salary.
Reader question
"My rent alone is 45% of my pay. Is 50/30/20 impossible for me?" No, but it's a guide, not a test. In high-cost areas, needs often take more than half. Start where you are, aim to save something every month, and adjust the split to fit your life. See Budgeting methods compared.
See you next Sunday,
